Briny Breezes was built by a group of local businessmen who wanted to create a place for the average person to live that was less than a five-star hotel and was close to the activities they enjoy. In the late 1990s, the area became a popular tourist attraction as a golf course was constructed. Today Brinca Bay Golf Club is considered to be one of the top eighteen driving ranges in the country.
